Why is my computer running so slow?
Anyone who has a computer will ask themselves at one time or other, “why is my computer running slowâ€? There are many reasons why your computer isn’t performing the way you expect it to. Below are some classic scenarios and remedies you can try to speed up computer.Â
- You may be running more background programs than your computer memory can handle. This can be easily resolved by accessing your Task Manager (Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete all at the same time). Click the excess program and exit it by choosing End Task. Do this again until you have 3-4 programs or what your PC memory can handle.
- Your hard drive may not have enough free space. You should have at least 2GB of free space in your drive. If you don’t have much, it is highly recommended that you delete unnecessary files and programs.
- Are you fond of playing games but your computer is too slow for you to enjoy it? Chances are, you don’t have much system memory needed for your software to run efficiently. You may want to upgrade your system memory to enjoy your games and keep your computer running smoothly.
- Your computer might be infected with a virus or loaded with spyware and adware. You can keep these away from your computer by downloading or purchasing anti-spyware and anti-virus software.
- If your computer doesn’t fall to any of the first 4 scenarios, you can try removing newly installed software which includes computer games, printer software, or applications. This should improve your computer’s performance.
- If you leave your computer on for days and you noticed that your computer running slow, reboot it. Leaving your PC on for more than 24 hours results in a build up of temporary files in your hard disk. Restarting your computer can instantly wipe out temporary files.
- If you have just installed a new application and you noticed slowness in your computer, start your PC in safe mode. If this runs much faster in safe mode, it is recommended that you uninstall the newly installed application as it is likely the reason why your computer’s performance is affected.
- If all these fails, you can opt to download a registry cleaner from the internet. This will correct the errors you registry keys might have. Corrupt registry keys and missing shortcuts tremendously affect the performance of your computer.
Keep your computer on its “feet†and don’t let anything slow it down.
